Application:
Lanthanum Fluoride, is mainly applied in specialty glass, water treatment and catalyst, and also as the main raw materials for making Lanthanum Metal. Lanthanum Fluoride (LaF3) is an essential component of a heavy Fluoride glass named ZBLAN. This glass has superior transmittance in the infrared range and is therefore used for fiber-optical communication systems. Lanthanum Fluoride is used in phosphor lamp coatings. Mixed with Europium Fluoride, it is also applied in the crystal membrane of Fluoride ion-selective electrodes.Lanthanum fluoride is used to prepare scintillators and rare earth crystal laser materials required by modern medical image display technology and nuclear science. Lanthanum fluoride is used to make fluoride glass optical fiber and rare earth infrared glass. Lanthanum fluoride is used in manufacturing arc lamp carbon electrodes in lighting sources. Lanthanum fluoride used in chemical analysis to manufacture fluoride ion selective electrodes.

Synthetic method
1. Dissolve lanthanum oxide in hydrochloric acid by chemical method and dilute to 100-150g/L (calculated as La2O3). Heat the solution to 70-80 ℃, and then precipitate with 48% hydrofluoric acid. Precipitation is washed, filtered, dried, crushed, and vacuum dehydrated to obtain lanthanum fluoride.
2. Place LaCl3 solution containing hydrochloric acid in a platinum dish and add 40% hydrofluoric acid. Pour out excess liquid and evaporate the residue dry.
