Emergency response to leakage of zirconium tetrachloride

Isolate the contaminated area and set up warning signs around it. It is recommended that emergency personnel wear gas masks and chemical protective clothing. Do not directly contact the leaked material to avoid dust. Be careful to sweep it up and prepare a 5% aqueous or acidic solution. Then gradually add dilute ammonia water until precipitation occurs, and then dispose of it. You can also rinse with a large amount of water, and dilute the washing water into the wastewater system. If there is a large amount of leakage, clean it up under the guidance of technical personnel.
Protective measures
Respiratory protection: When there is a possibility of exposure to its dust, a mask should be worn. Wear self-contained breathing apparatus when necessary.
Eye protection: Wear chemical safety goggles.
Protective clothing: Wear work clothes (made of anti-corrosion materials).
Hand protection: Wear rubber gloves.
Other: After work, take a shower and change clothes. Store clothes contaminated with toxic substances separately, wash them before use. Maintain good hygiene habits.
Emergency measures
Skin contact: Immediately rinse with water for at least 15 minutes. If there are burns, seek medical treatment.
Eye contact: Immediately lift the eyelids and rinse with flowing water or saline solution for at least 15 minutes.
Inhalation: Quickly leave the scene and move to a place with fresh air. Keep the respiratory tract unobstructed. If necessary, perform artificial respiration. Seek medical attention.
Ingestion: Rinse the mouth immediately when the patient is awake, do not induce vomiting, and drink milk or egg white. Seek medical attention.
