The uses of cerium metal are introduced as follows:
1. Rare earth polishing powder: Rare earth polishing powder containing 50% -70% Ce is used as polishing powder for color TV picture tubes and optical glass, with a large amount of usage.
2. Automotive exhaust purification catalyst: Cerium metal is used as a co catalyst for platinum group metal catalysts used in automotive exhaust purification to maintain oxygen storage function. This type of catalyst is now used in automobiles.
3. Magnetic material: Cerium metal is used as a substitute material for samarium in Sm2Co17 magnets.
4. White pigment: Cerium metal and neodymium are combined in glass as decolorizing agents, paint drying agents, and energy absorbing materials for ceramic capacitors.
