Thuliumchloride is een uitstekende door water oplosbare kristallijne thuliumbron voor gebruik die compatibel is met chloriden. Chlorideverbindingen kunnen elektriciteit leiden wanneer gefuseerd of opgelost in water. Chloridematerialen kunnen worden ontleed door elektrolyse van chloorgas en het metaal.
